A group of young game developers get tossed in a big game industry convention to show off their first game. Sounds destructive? TAMK and Score made this possible and the result was a priceless experience!
Overboard got it’s premiere at Winter Assembly 09. Game arrived at the opening day to TAMK’s booth maybe a little unfinished, but we were confident and let the other group of organizers play it. When the party started and booth cleared of extra organizers, some brave ones found their way to watch and eventually play our game. Over the time even more people tried our cozy beanbag chairs and enjoyed the fast paced game experience.
During the Saturday and Sunday Overboard entertained both the actual developers of the game as new players. We even think Overboard might have gotten some real fans too, as they stopped at our booth several times during the weekend and played in total several hundred rounds. They even found our little Easter Egg while playing.
We collected lots of valuable feedback and ideas how to develop the game further. The game yearned it’s unfinished-status every once in a while as crashing, and some of the bugs were fixed right at the spot. Incompleteness of the game didn’t take the enjoyment away from the people, and booth was filled with screams when the wave took the characters into Davy Jones’s locker or delightful Yarr!’s of the fresh born captain of the pirate ship!
