The madness is reborn! 5D2 is a 2010 sequel to the original 5D project (belowe) where we attempted to create five games in five weeks, working five days in a week and five hours a day with five people… for the second time. All games were made with Flash and AS3.

Unity

Unity Strategies gameplay Team (Hive mind):

  • Heikki Leppänen
  • Joel Peltonen
  • Jura Paatola
  • Nelli Telkkinen

Unity was one of Microsoft Imagine Cup 2009 semi-finalists. The game illustrates an alternative economy model that’s not based on money, but resources. Resource based economy is an ambitious model that would guarantee a basic living standard for every citizen, and the usual inequality originating from the monetary system wouldn’t exist.

The game is a light strategy game focused on resource management. Game mechanics are relatively simple, but they offer many strategic options for the player. Generally every choice is a compromise, because resources are limited. The problems stated in the UN Millennium goals are presented in the game as disasters and conflicts occurring in nations. The game shows how helping every nation equally will in the end help the whole world, when the nations can concentrate on helping each other instead of struggling for survival.

Overboard (project website)

Overboard is a multiplayer game created with Microsoft XNA for the Xbox360. Traditionally, it is thought that the captain is the last man to abandon ship. In Overboard, however, the remaining survivor actually becomes the captain, so it’s a survival of the fittest.

5D (project website)

Colour Flow gameplay Team:

  • Teemu Haila: Programming
  • Jura Paatola: Programming
  • Taneli Pursiainen: Graphic design
  • Teemu Ropilo: Audio design
  • Ville Valtavaara: Graphic design

5D was the ‘08 summer project of Score where we attempted to create five games in five weeks, working five days in a week and five hours a day with five people. (Talk about neuroticism…) All games were done using Microsoft’s XNA framework.

Steamsky

Steamsky main menu Team:

  • Timo Elsilä
  • Teemu Haila
  • Henri Haimakainen
  • Juho Hartikainen
  • Timo Pietilä
  • Antti Salomaa

Steamsky is a steampunk aircraft shooter game done with XNA. We made this at the game production course of TAMK. Steamsky features a twisty control scheme where the player controls the two engines of his aircraft with the analog triggers of the Xbox360 controller, which is why the project served as more of a gameplay prototype rather than an actual game.

Frayed

Frayed was Score’s first game project that failed to succeed. It was supposed to be a first person survival horror game located in Tampere School of Art and Media. Eventually, however, it became more of a cautionary example of an overly ambitious game development project which are rather common for fledgling development teams.
